ARA Co-Signs Letter to Canadian Prime Minister on Rail Work Stoppage
Aug 19 2024
ARA co-signed a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau raising concerns over the potential significant disruption to North American supply chains if a lockout or strike occurs between Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City.
Agriculture is particularly exposed to rail stoppages due to robust fertilizer and other ag input trade and livestock industry that depends on rail for timely delivery, the letter states.
On Aug. 23, the Canadian government intervened in the railroad shutdown by ordering binding arbitration to end the labor dispute and the Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City to return to operations.
