ARA Co-Signs Letter to Army Corps Expressing Concern of Permit Impacting Port Allen

ARA co-signed a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Ag Transportation Working Group to express concerns related to a pending permit to expand the CEMUS Deep Water Port in Port Allen, Louisiana, to accommodate a post-Panamax cargo ship.

ARA and the undersigned organizations appreciate upgrades underway throughout the inland waterways system; however the addition of a post-Panamax-sized vessel at this location increases the safety risk for operators, significantly reduces transportation capacity and efficiency, and further threatens the competitiveness of American farmers and ag stakeholders during the already challenging harvest time.
