ARA, Industry Groups Call on USDA to Allow Emergency Cropping on CRP Land Amid Ukraine Crisis

Mar 23 2022

ARA and industry groups cited the crisis in Ukraine in a letter to the Biden administration urging flexibility to allow farmers to plant crops on currently idled land under the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

The letter warns of extremely low supplies of wheat, corn, barley and sunflower oil, and urges the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide flexibility for "prime farmland" acres within the CRP in order to produce more grain and oilseeds to offset the loss in global supply.

View more recommendations from ARA and the undersigned organizations in the letter to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack.
