ARA Applauds SCOTUS on Vaccine Mandate Decision
Jan 13 2022
Today the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the Biden administration’s emergency rule that would have required employers with more than 100 employees to either get proof of vaccination or require weekly testing of employees. Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) President and CEO Daren Coppock issued the following statement in support of the decision:
"Based on the concerns of our members, ARA expressed opposition to the employer mandate. The objection was not against the vaccines themselves – the science supporting those is very clear – but rather against the practical ramifications of requiring employers to be the vaccine police in an already-challenging labor market.
"Many retailers have positions open today that they’re trying to fill and an employer vaccine and testing mandate would have made filling them even more difficult, particularly for those employers above the arbitrary 100-employee threshold.
"We are pleased the Court recognized the impacts this would have and made a favorable decision."
The Court did allow a vaccine or testing requirement covering most workers at medical facilities who receive Medicaid or Medicare funding.
