ARA Comments to EPA Opposing California's Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation
Sep 16 2024
ARA filed comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Transportation and Air Quality expressing strong opposition to the California Air Resources Board's Advanced Clean Fleets regulation and the waiver request.
ARA’s comments highlighted the numerous problems for agricultural retailers and the industry such as:
- significant costs to replace heavy duty diesel trucks with electric trucks as they are 3 to 4 times more expensive;
- installation of charging stations if able to obtain the required permits;
- increased electricity rates;
- an aging electric grid with more major power outages; and
- decreased hauling capacity from EV trucks.
ARA also joined a coalition letter from the Agricultural Transportation Working Group (ATWG) in opposition to this electric vehicle (EV) mandate.
